Making Music Connections

SOA residency programs involve educational programming and community engagement with the visiting guest artists for Symphony Series performances and SOA musicians who visit area schools to perform, teach, and inspire students in the Central Savannah River Area and surrounding areas. Formerly known as the Music in the Schools, this program allows SOA to connect with the youngest residents in the CSRA through ensemble lecture-demonstrations.

As a part of the Making Music Connections initiative, guest artists participate in educational residencies for several days prior to their performances in the Symphony Series or Columbia County Music Series. In the 2016-17 season, SOA offers performances by Zorá Quartet, Continuo Collective of the South, the SOA Bach Rocks! Quartet, and performances by SOA principal musicians. These lecture-demonstrations are scheduled to reach over 10,000 elementary age students in the CSRA. SOA musicians will also visit Boys and Girls Clubs of the CSRA and The Charlie Norwood VAMC. The extraordinary skill and talent of these artists provides students the opportunity to participate in a once in a lifetime musical experience.
