Symphony Orchestra Augusta continues to work to increase involvement in our community. The recently added KROC series, partnership with Boys and Girls Club, as well as increased involvement of our guest concertmasters with the Richmond County String Orchestra program are just a few examples of the expansion of SOA’s community engagement programs in recent months. These new partnerships combined with the expansion and growth of Making Music Connections, Discovery Concerts, Orchestras Feeding America, a new Composer Festival, and the Concerto Competition allow SOA to be a more active and engaging organization as we prepare for our programs at The Miller.
“Community Engagement is the process of building relationships with community members who will work side-by-side with SOA as an ongoing partner, in any and every way imaginable, building an army of support for our mission, with the end goal of making the community a better place. This work can be done in group activities, where individuals within our organization mingle and engage the individuals present, or it could be done one-on-one, over breakfast. That is the incredible thing about Community Engagement activities – they are MORE fun, LESS costly, and MORE effective for the work of organizations! Why? Community Engagement activities are interactive – they are not about “telling and selling” but about real, honest sharing of our goals and dreams for the community – creating a real, honest connection. The individuals working and volunteering at those organizations are likely thinking about the very issues we are trying to address, and we will be able to accomplish so much more together than alone”.
